Dr. Tara Egan

Tara Egan, LCMHC, D.Ed. (pronouns: she/her) is the proud owner of Egan Counseling & Consulting and has provided mental health support for children, teens, and parents for nearly 22 years. She holds a doctorate in school psychology and has specialized training in counseling and family-school relations. She’s worked in public schools, private schools, mental health centers, college settings, and in private practice. Her private practice was originally known as Charlotte Parent Coaching, LLC, and was established in 2011 after serving nearly 10 years as a school psychologist. Due to the growth of her business and a shift in her focus to include in-depth work with families experiencing separation and divorce, she transitioned her business name to Egan Counseling & Consulting in 2022.

Although Dr. Egan has extensive experience working with children and teens who struggle with anxiety, depression, temper tantrums, power struggles, defiance, school avoidance, and social skill deficits, her work has evolved to primarily support children and their parents as they navigate separation and divorce. She provides therapy to children and teens, offers coparenting counseling, and has recently began offering parent coordination services. She is one of the few therapists in the Charlotte area who will testify in court on behalf of her clients, when deemed clinically appropriate. *PLEASE NOTE: At this time, Dr. Egan is NOT offering reunification therapy services.*

Dr. Egan is the author of three books; Better Behavior for Ages 2-10 (Lesson Ladder, 2013), Adolescence: A Parent's Guide (Rockridge Press, 2020) and First-Time Mom's Toddler Discipline Handbook (Rockridge Press, 2021). She co-hosts a parenting podcast called "One Day You'll Thank Me" with her teenage daughter, Anna.

Dr. Egan is a wife, an ex-wife, a mom, and a stepmom. She’s a family therapist, a parent coordinator, a parent coach, a podcast host, an author, and a public speaker.
